I am not a fan of change. I’ve accepted it as part of life, and I’m working at not having a breakdown every time something I want to happen doesn’t happen, but I really STILL hate change. Unfortunately life IS change, so Denny’s advice is still true: “Suck it up, Buttercup!” So I do! 😉

A few months ago I sent out an email with a list of changes in the Dance With Janet group. I’ll bet you’ve been tossing and turning all this time, wondering which of those changes have stuck. Well, never fear. It’s time to clue you in as to the newest goings-on in the Dance With Janet world

First, we still offer BRIDGE Dances at Tequila Roadhouse on the second and fourth Fridays of the month from 6 – 9 pm. TR has a reasonably priced menu with a full bar. No lessons are officially taught, but all beginner dances are run through before we dance them, and called as needed. 75% of the time TWO dances are done at the same time, to the same song; one harder and one easier. We call those “split floors” and we are the only venue providing this option!  Because of the multiple dances at each level of difficulty, everyone dances all the time. We love it; try us out!!  The complete dance schedule is at http://www.dancewithjanet.com/upcomingevents.
Second, the Beginner 1 class on Thursdays at the Geneva American Legion Hall is still running from 2:45 – 4 pm. It’s an $8 drop-in class. Stop by if you’d like to learn how to line dance; I’m teaching it personally.  The complete lesson schedule is at http://www.dancewithjanet.com/teachingschedule.
Third, the Monday line dance classes which were moved to the On Pointe Dance Academy have been moved back to the Wheaton Leisure Center, aka the Mary Lupko Center, at 208 W. Union in Wheaton. Beginner 2 (2/3 Beginner 2 dances and 1/3 Beginner 1 dances) runs at 5:30 and Intermediate runs at 7:00.  While these are 6 week classes running through the park district, if you want to drop in occasionally, you are welcome to use the $8/class pay-as-you-go option.
Fourth, for a while I tried posting on Sunday what new dances I would be teaching for the week. That didn’t really work out. I usually teach one new dance per level every two weeks and review other dances during class, but it actually depends on the group, and so cannot be accurately predicted. Classes have turned into miniature dances, as about half the people who take classes with me do not attend the Tuesday or Friday dances. That’s fine with me; it’s all about whatever works for you.
Fifth, we hosted dances at On Pointe Dance Academy and the DuPage County Fairgrounds. Those locations didn’t work out but I’m still testing other venues on the first Fridays of the month. Our next new location is the Heart & Sole Dance Academy in Joliet on September 6th. We will also return to the Geneva American Legion on September 20th, and continue dancing there on the third Friday of the month during the school year.

In other news, our 2020 Cruise is six and a half months away. It’s therefore time to start with our Pre-Cruise Parties! These have been super successful; we meet each other, plan our trip, and get all those nagging questions answered (and eat). Our first get together will be from 2 – 6 pm on September 7th at my place, 1764 Kresswood Dr. in West Chicago, and the question and answer portion of the meeting will start at 3:30. Please bring a dish to pass as we all love to eat!  Visit http://www.dancewithjanet.com/cruise2020 to register; we still have a few rooms left at the group rate, and a couple of people who need roommates.
SUCCESS!!  I’m delighted to announce that Courtney has completed the rebuilding of the Members Only page three weeks ahead of schedule! All three line dance levels have been combined into one. If you have already purchased your yearly membership, you’ll be receiving a new password with access to this new page later in the week. For now, the page is still accessible via the three links on the members only page at www.dancewithjanet.com/members. Please copy and paste the new password into your notes or save it into your phone or computer when you access the videos and step sheets (over 430 of them!!) so you can more easily access this information. The page displays much better on cell phones now. I look forward to your feedback!
Also, the best line dance convention in the world is coming to town on October 10-13.  Early Bird registration ends August 31st; register at http://countryedge.com/Events/WindyCityLineDanceMania/WindyCityLinedancemania.htm.  I have a few rooms reserved, so please let me know if you’d like to stay during the weekend.
Just a reminder, the Chicagoland Dance Festival kicks off this Friday at 2 pm at the Crowne Plaza in Rosemont. This is the premier couples country and swing dance convention in the Chicagoland area and I highly recommend it (AND the shoe vendor will be there so you can try on all different styles of dance shoes – no admission charge required). If you’re not staying overnight, I suggest you park across the street at the Outlet Mall; it’s free parking.  Other the details can be found at chicagolanddancefestival.com
Lastly, I’ve heard through the grapevine that some of you are looking for a daytime Beginner 1 line dance class than the Thursday one in Geneva. Please click here or complete the one below to let me know what days and times are available for you and I’ll do what I can.
See you on the dance floor!!
Love ya!
